I am a PA and NJ certified Business teacher. PA is "Business, Computers and Info Tech" and NJ is "Comprehensive Business". I taught for 10 years in Philadelphia Public Schools' Business Program. I taught in the dual enrollment program in conjunction with Holy Family University and taught my High School students, college level classes for college credit during the day. I also worked myself, as an office worker and in the Information Technology field for about 20 years.
I have been involved in Music since 2nd grade; I majored in Music in college and took composition classes. I have arranged band and glee club compositions for my student groups as well as for adult brass ensembles.

During my 14 year tenure with the School District of Philadelphia, ESL students were included with the other children in my classes. All students were mixed in, including Special Ed. Since I have a degree in Music, I have a good ear and am often used to help understand what ESL students are saying when there is no interpreter available. I was able to help them learn because I could understand their broken English, especially levels 2, 3 and 4. The level 1 - lowest functioning - ESL students may be beyond my reach, however, so I would only attempt to tutor students with some grasp of the English language.
I was a computer Programmer/Analyst for almost 20 years prior to returning to teaching in 1999. I taught computers for 13 of my 14 years with the School District of Philadelphia. In addition, I taught a class in UNIX at a local community college and taught introductory classes in computer applications for Holy Family University in their dual enrollment program with high school juniors and seniors for two years at Fels High School.
I have a Bachelor of Music with teacher certification in Pennsylvania, Music K-12, Instructional Level II. I have sung since 2nd grade and played an instrument since 8th grade. I have taught Music privately since graduating from college.
I am certified to teach English / Language Arts in both PA and NJ for Middle School. I won the English award in 8th grade, was in Advanced Placement English classes in High School and Honors English in college. Grammar is one of my strengths.
I was a computer Programmer/Analyst for almost 20 years before returning to teaching in 1999. I programmed in HTML as needed, in addition to my other work in other languages. I also was a web editor for 2 local charities/non-profits for several years. I taught HTML programming to my High School students at Gratz High School for three years.
As a Computer Science teacher in Philadelphia, I had two different computer labs full of Mac (Apple) computers and had to teach my students on them, using Microsoft Office products and the internet. I did have to set up printers and connect to the internet, etc. I am not an expert, but advanced.
I taught Office for 10 years in high school; I am certified Microsoft Master Instructor in Office (XP and 2007). This includes Access Database program, part of Microsoft Office Suite. I have used Access for many years in addition to being certified by Microsoft to teach it.

I have used all of Microsoft's email programs on my home and work computers for many years. Since I was a computer programmer/analyst in industry, I was required to help end users in the use and acted as a technical resource for many companies.
I received several training classes in PowerPoint in industry, and had to assist end users with the program. I also became a Microsoft Master Instructor in Office XP and 2007, which included PowerPoint. I have taught PowerPoint in the School District of Philadelphia for 10 of my 14 years there.
I taught Office for 10 years in high school; I am certified Microsoft Master Instructor in Office (XP and 2007). This includes Microsoft Publisher. I taught Publisher to my High School students for 10 years. They used it to create the school newsletter for one school and had regular class assignments. I also became a Microsoft Master Instructor in Office XP and 2007, which included WORD. I have taught WORD in the School District of Philadelphia for 13 of my 14 years there.
During my years of singing and piano lessons, I received training in Music Theory. I also took classes in Music Theory during my studies at Immaculata University, where I received a Bachelor of Music Performance and Education.
I have been playing piano since high school; as a Music Major in college, we were required to play the piano; I took piano as a minor subject. I have given private piano lessons for many years in evening and on weekends, especially when I lived in Bucks county, PA, for 18 years. I am an "octave club" member of the Bucks County Association of Piano Teachers.
In college, I easily waived the required "public speaking" class. While a High School Business teacher for 10 years, I helped my students get comfortable making presentations from PowerPoint and delivering the presentation to a group of other students. Many people do not feel confident speaking in front of other people.
I understand how nerve wracking it can be when anxiety steps in. I have appeared in 3 opera choruses during the last 3 summers. One of my strengths is English, so writing what you want to say is an important tool.
I have sung since 2nd grade glee club; during middle school I also joined my church choir. As a music major in college, we sang in the chorus and had sight singing classes as part of our curriculum. I am still good at it! Since I am taking voice lessons for several years and I am part of a regional choir, I use sight singing on a regular basis.
I taught High School for 10 years in the Business Program. We were a CTE program as well as a College Prep program. I have helped many students get their routines down pat in order to go to college; this included study skills in various subjects, depending on what problems the student needed to address. If the student is extreme Special Education, I am not certified to help them.
I played trombone for 4 years in High School (1st chair) and 4 years in college (1st chair). I was a trombone major in college, piano minor. I also played in community bands (1st chair) and orchestras (2nd chair) for many years. I still play in church when needed and will substitute on occasion.

I also played in community bands (1st chair) and orchestras (2nd chair) for many years. I still play in church when needed and will substitute on occasion. Because of this, I am knowledgeable about trumpet; when someone came into the music room and I was inside a practice room playing the trumpet, everyone knew it was me because nobody else sounded that good! I own my own trumpet.
I am currently taking voice lessons myself. I have sung in three summer opera choruses produced locally. I have coordinated a Middle School Glee Club. I sing in a church choir and cantor alone in church. I am a member of the Archdiocesan Adult Choir of Philadelphia.
