I am a dedicated, knowledgeable, and friendly tutor. I have twenty five years of tutoring experience in mathematics and accounting, and have enabled many students, young and older, to achieve greater motivation and success. My goals for my students are a better understanding of the subject matter, improved grades, and greater self esteem. I take pride in my ability to enable my students to achieve these goals, and have found that my students and their parents have been pleased with the results they have obtained from my assistance.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree and two Master's degrees, and have been teaching and tutoring mathematics and accounting for more than twenty years. One of my greatest skills as a tutor is my ability to communicate concepts that are troublesome to my students in a way that simplifies them and makes them understandable. I also am adept at instilling confidence in my students, and making the time I spend with them enjoyable rather than a frustrating experience.

My approach to tutoring is to first make my student feel at ease, then communicate the relevant concepts in an understandable way. I then demonstrate the skills we are working on, and finally help the student work through problems related to those skills (still assisting them, but allowing them to work as independently as possible).

I am careful to challenge my students that they may grow their understanding, while at the same time having the work and exercises they do progress at a rate that that permits them to feel a sense of accomplishment. My job is not complete until my student has moved from "this is too hard for me" to "I can do this." Confidence, resulting from understanding and an ability to perform, is the key to success.

My credentials include a Bachelor's degree in accounting, graduating with highest honors and first in my class, and a Master's degree in education with a concentration in mathematics, graduating with highest honors.

Between tutoring sessions, I make myself available to my students by phone or email if they need help or have questions about their work.

Accounting

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Villanova University. I graduated first in my class. Upon graduation, I worked in public accounting for a number of years, and then opened two businesses where I performed all of the bookkeeping and accounting functions.

I had a desire to become a teacher, so I sold my businesses and attended Saint Joseph's University, majoring in Education. I then obtained a teaching position at a business school in Philadelphia, teaching accounting and other business related subjects for seven years. I have now been tutoring students in accounting for twenty seven years.

Algebra 1

My qualifications: I have a Master's degree in Education from Saint Joseph's University with a concentration in teaching mathematics. I have been teaching and tutoring math for more than twenty years. The reason I have been doing this for such a long time is that I enjoy it and have been very successful in helping students to learn that which they once felt was "unlearnable."

My method of tutoring Algebra 1: When I tutor a student in Algebra 1, I first asses their level of understanding and "misunderstanding" of the subject. That way, I know where to begin. Often I will begin with a brief review of any pre-algebra concepts that have been giving the student difficulty. This way, we can build a foundation upon which to learn more advanced concepts.

Then, moving step by step at a pace that is comfortable for the student, we "travel" through the course. Always, a new concept is learned by building it upon a concept the student has previously mastered. We move from the known to the unknown, and learning easily takes place.

I have found that this method gives the student a number of valuable rewards. It builds confidence and self esteem, enables the student to master the subject, and, finally, it enables the student get good grades and be successful in Algebra 1.

Bible Studies

I have been studying the Bible for forty-two years. During that time I was recognized by church leadership as a gifted teacher and communicator, and taught the Bible in my church and in home Bible study groups. I earned a Master's degree from Talbot Theological Seminary, graduated suma cum laude, and taught the Bible professionally for sixteen years. I am friendly and patient, am able to put students at ease, and am able to make concepts which are difficult for a student simple and understandable.

I have a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in mathematics from Saint Joseph's University, graduating first in my class. After graduation, I taught and tutored mathematics at the middle school and high school levels for a number of years. I have been tutoring mathematics for twenty one years. I am friendly and patient, am able to put students at ease, and am able to make concepts which are difficult for a student simple and understandable.

Prealgebra

I have been teaching and tutoring math for over twenty years. I have a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Mathematics. My success in tutoring results from my ability to put students at ease, and to make those concepts which are difficult for my students easily understood.

My method of tutoring Pre-algebra: Moving from basic math to pre-algebra can be challenging because a student who is used to doing math almost exclusively with numbers suddenly finds that they are learning a mathematics that involves the use of not only numbers, but also letters, symbols, and concepts with which the student is unfamiliar.

Therefore, I find it helpful to begin with concepts the student understands and exercises the student can successfully perform, and build on them step by step at a pace that is comfortable for the student. This builds confidence in the student and makes the subject matter less intimidating.

Before long pre-algebra no longer seems strange, and the student develops an understanding of the concepts involved in pre-algebra. The student finds fulfillment in easily solving problems that once seemed beyond their abilities.

The result is that a student who once felt "lost" now takes pride in the fact that they can not only learn pre-algebra, but can master it and be very successful in the subject.
