I graduated with my degree in Elementary Education in 2006. I taught for one year in an urban charter school before moving overseas to the country of Tanzania. I have spent the past four years living and teaching elementary school in Tanzania for local children. I mostly taught English as a second language but also assisted other teachers in lesson planning and activities for other subjects. I was the academic department head in my school and therefore designed and implemented new programs to raise academic achievement school-wide. I worked with teachers to improve student learning in their classrooms as well as worked individually with several low achieving students who needed extra help.
I did group tutoring afterschool for two 7th grade classes in helping prepare them for their end of Elementary National examination. I worked on revision of all subjects from grades 1-7 and taught the students study skills to help them prepare. All 50 of the students I helped tutor passed their national exam.
I believe that ALL students can be good learners, as a teacher I just need to figure out the way they learn best. I connect and work well with students who lack motivation in school and have behavior issues.
