Hello there! I am a senior at NYU Tisch pursuing a BFA in Acting with a minor in Applied Theatre, and I have a passion for bringing my skills and commitment to my work to students of all ages. I believe strongly in the power of the arts to help all of us, especially students, take hold of and cultivate our strengths as well as to recognize and overcome our weaknesses.
My work in Applied Theatre has led me to working with students of all ages in using theatre arts to gain greater understanding of a wide range of subjects. Through a course at NYU called Intercultural Collaborations with Local Teens, my fellow classmates and I went in to a local Brooklyn high school and used Applied Drama techniques to help ESL and special needs students approach canonical English texts in new and exciting ways. These techniques opened their eyes to material that had been previously inaccessible to many of them.
I have also worked extensively with organizations like The 52nd St. Project in Hell's Kitchen, assisting kids ages 10-18 with after-school Homework Help, as well as creating various theatrical productions with the help of professional artists. In my hometown of Richmond, VA I worked with the organizations Richmond Shakespeare and Will Power by acting/coaching with inner-city teens in Romeo & Juliet, which they then performed for their peers and followed each production with a workshop on conflict resolution.
I also have an immense passion for English literature, and am a proficient writer as well. My specialties include dramatic lit, classical lit, modern American lit, and writing of any kind. I also have experience in Test Prep help, specifically SAT and ACT.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about me, I'd love to learn more about you as well! Please reach out with any questions about my qualifications or services, and I look forward to working with you!
Through my work as a teaching artist with students, especially groups like The 52nd St. Project, I have experience in tutoring kids ages 10-18 during the Project's Homework Help sessions every day after school. I specialized in helping students with subjects like Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, English, and Grammar. I have similar experience in working with high school age students from City Polytechnic School in Brooklyn through a course at NYU entitled Intercultural Collaboration with Local Teens. Using Applied Drama techniques, we helped these students, who were primarily ESL or had minor learning deficiencies, to better engage with the literary texts they were required to read through their English class.
Through my work as a teaching artist with students, especially groups like The 52nd St. Project, I have experience in tutoring kids ages 10-18 during the Project's Homework Help sessions every day after school. I specialized in helping students with subjects like Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, English, and Grammar, as well as specialized tests such as the ACT and SAT. I personally scored above 30 on the ACT with my highest marks being in English and Reading, and I scored above 2000 on the SAT (including Writing), with my highest marks being again on English, Reading, and Writing.
Acting is my passion and my career. In December I will graduate from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Acting and a minor in Applied Theatre, my specialty being theatrical work with children and students of all ages, but particularly middle and high school.
I currently volunteer for companies specializing in theatre work with local student populations, and as a teaching artist for a local Brooklyn high school through NYU. In my hometown of Richmond, Virginia, I worked closely with the Education Director of the Richmond Shakespeare company, both as an assistant instructor and acting partner, amongst other various educational theatre positions.
In addition to my work with students, I have extensive on-stage experience as an actor in classical and contemporary work as well as physical comedy/improv, clowning, mask work including Commedia dell'Arte, stage combat, and much much more.
I grew up loving writing from a very young age, leading me to pursue primarily creative writing, with an emphasis on dramatic writing, poetry, and fiction. As part of my Personal Project for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, I wrote a 45-minute play that was then performed in front of a live audience, and also wrote a 10-page personal statement on the process. Also as part of the IB Program, I wrote a 15-page research paper called the Extended Essay, for which I received top marks. After 2 semesters of a course called Writing the Essay at NYU in which I received straight A's, I was invited to submit multiple academic and creative essays to the published NYU Mercer Street Essay Collection. Today, as Assistant Managing Director of a non-profit group, I assist with grant-writing proposals as well as various other written materials. Finally, through my work as a teaching artist with students, especially groups like The 52nd St. Project, I have experience in tutoring kids ages 10-18 during the Project's Homework Help sessions every day after school. I specialized in helping students with subjects like Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, English, and Grammar.
