I am a teacher with experience working across a variety of subjects at middle school, high school, and college levels. I have taught science and tutored writing, among other topics. Below I have included an educational bio where you can learn more about my expertise.
Looking forward to working with you and helping you find success!
I am a 2009, cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College. I majored in History and French Language. For those of you who haven't heard of Bowdon, it is a small liberal arts school in Brunswick, Maine and is ranked #6 nationally. While there, I was president of the student government, completed a triathlon, and was I was awarded the David Sewall Premium by the English department, which is a writing award issued to one member of the class each year.
For 3.5 years at Bowdoin, I worked as a writing tutor for other students in our campus Writing Project. To prepare for this, I took a course solely on Writing Instruction, for which I earned an A. I would workshop papers at any stage of the process and often worked within courses to help students revise essays before final submission. Additionally, I worked long-term with a number of students to improve their writing and help them craft almost every paper they wrote, regardless of subject. I also worked with a number of students to prepare personal statements for job and graduate school applications, similar to those required for college admissions applications.
After graduating Bowdoin, I came to Philadelphia to teach high schools science. In 2011, I earned my Masters in Education from the University of Pennsylvania with an emphasis on Science teaching methods. I am certified to teach Chemistry but I have primarily taught 9th grade Physical Science, which covers basic physics and chemistry content. Within that course, I have taught test-taking skills and algebra skills. I have worked with both honors and special needs students ages 13-17. I am in the process of earning my Middle School Science certification, which will be complete by September 2013. I have mentored a number of students through the college process, including organizing and taking students on college visits (my picture shows me and a student on our trip to Bowdoin).
