I am a musician with a diverse combination of education and on-the-job experience. I received my undergraduate degree in music education and am certified to teach general music and all instruments at the K-12 level. My instrumental specialty is the French horn. I have performed professionally and taught French horn lessons for over 10 years. In addition, I have countless years of experience playing and teaching trumpet and flute. I have taught elementary through high school levels of music theory for the Temple University Community Music Scholars Program. Currently, I am a teaching artist for Play On, Philly!

Before I decided to pursue my career in music, I often contemplated life as a marine biologist. I spent 10 years working at an aquarium at the Jersey Shore (Jenkinson's Aquarium). During my employment, I gave informative talks about main exhibits and provided educational programs on various animals within the facility's collection, including African Black-footed Penguins. I helped support feeding, training, enrichment, and conservation initiatives of the aquarium.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an undergraduate degree in education with honors. My college course work included numerous classes in teaching approaches and student learning styles. I have taught general music to elementary school students (Temple Prep--Community Music Scholars Program) which included concepts in mathematics, history, and reading. I have presented countless hour long assemblies and workshops to elementary school students on the African penguin and other marine life topics, as I worked at Jenkinson's Aquarium for nearly 10 years.

Study Skills

My educational background reflects both my ability to implement effective study skill techniques and my ability to teach others these skills. I graduated in the top 25% of my high school class, from my undergraduate institution with numerous honors including summa cum laude, and from my graduate institution with a 3.8 gpa. My focus is on music but my passion is education--teaching others how to apply their abilities to retain the knowledge they need for success.

Trumpet

My experience playing and teaching the trumpet spans over 10 years. I have 2 years of college level jazz ensemble playing. I majored in music education and in doing so took multiple course on pedagogy methods, including brass instrument playing and teaching techniques. I have taught trumpet lessons in Philadelphia for the past two years. In addition, I have 20 years experience playing brass instruments, including a masters degree in French horn performance and 7 years of professional French horn freelancing experience.
