I am a graduate of December 2012 at Brigham Young University Hawaii with a bachelor of science in biological sciences pre-professional, minors in biochemistry and mathematics. I have experience in tutoring high school and college algebra I and II. I focus at identifying common errors and mistakes made by the student, point them out and thoroughly explain the right concept and how it comes about. I have a great passion for the combination of numbers and letters and I was a certified math tutor who focused on algebra, prealgebra, precalculus and trigonometry for one year at college. I aim at finding simpler methods of performing calculations that can easily be understood and make sense to others.
I consider biology and chemistry concepts to be apart of my lifestyle. I tutored general biology for a semester and often got involved in general biology and chemistry discussions. After studying general chemistry for a year and then organic chemistry, I was awarded as an out standing student in organic chemistry by the American Chemical Society of Hawaii in the year 2011, given my participation and understanding of the concepts of the subject matter. I base on principles to solve issues at hand, and I am also really good at chemical conversions and calculations as well as the metric system.
Being a pre-professional biology major, I took on courses like microbiology, elementary and advanced molecular biology, elementary - patho- and principles of physiology, elementary and advanced anatomy to mention but a few that enabled me to appreciate concepts of life and its different forms. To make this a reality, I participated in applied microbiology research that involved interactions with fellow students in these disciplines. These forms of interactions enabled me to strengthen further my understanding of biological concepts. I look forward onto helping others understand these concepts and become apart of the natural sciences cycle.
The involvement of numbers and letters attracts my attention making me appreciate algebra. I had two years of high school algebra, one semester in college coupled with tutoring it for one year in college and helping out friends with algebra concepts. I also did personal studying of algebra that was not part of my course because of my passion for it. I point out error and/or mistake done, explain the concept and how it comes about and let the student continue with the calculation until the get to understand how it comes about.
I minored in mathematics in college and I was an A student in my algebra classes. I have one year of experience in tutoring mathematics and I mainly focused on algebra because of my interest in the subject matter. I also got to explain concepts to friends and colleagues which strengthened my understanding and got to know how different people view algebra concepts.
The magnificent formation of the human body caught my attention and I took elementary anatomy at college level. It involved hands on lab work and lecture discussing the different components of the body. The experience was thrilling and I decided to take an advanced anatomy course. This was a hands on class involving the dissection of the human cadaver. With only five students allowed in the class, I was able to get the full attention and concentration on what I was doing, strengthening my anatomy experience.
In college, I took one year of general chemistry, one year of organic chemistry in which I received an outstanding student award by the American Chemical Society of Hawaii and a semester of biochemistry. Understanding the concepts of the subject matter is better than trying to memorize it. I am good at chemical calculations and conversations, given the calculations pretest we had to take before being granted laboratory access.
I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor of science in biological sciences pre-professional, with a strong understanding of microbial concepts and principles. I took a course in microbiology, have done research in applied microbiology helped explaining several concepts to colleagues and friends involving both class and laboratory work.
The study of the components around us especially their importance to human life and well-being is the basis of the principles and concepts of Organic Chemistry. Our study of the active ingredients in nature enables creation of many substances ranging from daily used poly-plastics to pharmaceuticals for survival and saving of life. I was fortunate to study Organic Chemistry in high school, continued with it in college as Organic Chemistry I and II obtaining A-'s in both and A's in the practical sections. Because of my devotion to the subject matter, I was a teaching assistant for a semester and was further awarded as an Outstanding Student in Organic Chemistry in 2011 by the American Chemical Society of Hawaii. It will be a pleasure helping others understand the fascinating and interesting principles of Organic Chemistry.
At the college level I studied elementary physiology that mainly dealt with the way different body systems coordinate with each other. Because of my interest in the subject, I further took principles of physiology studying how body mechanisms work. Interruption of the body occurs all the time and I was interested in taking pathophysiology that also involved case studies and interventions to restore body homeostasis. This was coupled with my volunteering in the emergency room for about four months.
I minored in mathematics in college. The combination of numbers with letters is thrilling, giving me the urge to learn more and help others. I show you your mistake and explain how it comes about, and you do the rest.
