After 12 wonderful years in 4th grade, I moved into early education working for two years in 1st grade, then 2 years in kindergarten. My specialty has been running after school tutoring clubs for students who need extra support to make rapid gains in order to achieve grade level success. I have attended the Reading Writing Project at Teacher's College Summer Institute Reading Summer Intensive for kindergarten as well as the Writing Intensive seminar for 4th grade. I have been trained by the Children's Literacy Initiative in best practice in literacy, and led Math Study groups for teachers in support of a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. With my daughter off to college I have extra hours and energy to devote to tutoring.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Pennsylvania. I have taught for 16 years at a Philadelphia public school.

Phonics

I have been teaching in elementary school for 17 years with a Master's in Elementary Education. I have attended the summer Intensive Institute in Reading at the Teacher's College Writing and Reading Project just this past summer. I taught 4th grade for 12 years, then 1st grade for two years. Now I have been teaching in kindergarten for two years and work with phonics development all day long!

Study Skills

I have not only taught 4th grade for 12 years, 1st grade for 2 and kindergarten for 2 years, but have also taught after school programs for students who need extra support in math and reading. We designed programs to help students prepare for standardized tests, and I led turn around teaching for my peers in supporting student achievement.

Theatre

My undergraduate degree is from NYU with a BFA in Theater Arts. I studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory. I took a two month workshop with David Mamet. I studied for two years at the New Actor's Workshop with Mike Nichols. I worked in theater for many years in NYC and Philadelphia.
