I have a unique perspective in academic preparation because I had to work incredibly hard to teach myself to be a better student during my time at Penn. These experiences have shaped me to stay optimistic and continue to work hard not only for the grade but also for the sake of learning the material. I also formed close relationships with professors because I sought them out as mentors in the learning experience. I strongly believe that I have the potential to be a successful tutor and mentor. My top three strengths are that I am goal oriented, compassionate, and versatile. I enjoy working with people one on one, and it is also one of many reasons why I plan on pursuing dentistry.
As a high school student, I took the SAT and scored a 2240 overall (690 Math, 750 Reading Comprehension, 800 Writing). I also took the SAT II Math, Biology E/M, and Chemistry subject tests and scored above 700’s in all areas. I have found that seeking additional means of preparation provided me with the confidence and skills that translated into maximizing my learning capabilities in the classroom and beyond. Because I have gone through the ups and downs of being a student, preparing for exams, and the college application process, I have the empathy and drive to connect with my students and keep them grounded in achieving their goals. I am also currently working towards entering dental school. If your student is preparing to go to college, as someone who is going through a similar admissions process but at a different life stage, I believe that I am in the best position to advise and motivate your student. I am a strong believer in the process and not the end goal. Although I would love for my students to all achieve the highest scores possible, I also would like for them to understand that this course is not just another obstacle, but a process where they can come to better understand what exactly they are working towards, and an experience from which they continuously learn from their mistakes both academically and personally.
