Hi! My name is Phil, and I'm looking forward to being able to help you excel in the SAT, or any of the other subjects I have available for tutoring. Following a very successful round of SAT testing for myself, I would love to pass on the tips and tricks that helped me excel in the SAT. I scored a combined 1400 out of 1600 on the SAT's, with a 790 out of 800 on the verbal section. I will use the skills I learned achieving this score to help you achieve success in the SAT's. I'm currently finishing my last semester of college, and will be graduating from Penn State in the summer of 2013. I will use the skills I have learned from my years in school to help you succeed.
My tutoring style will be simple. I'll identify what is giving you the most trouble in the SAT, and develop a plan of attack to help fix the problem. Having trouble with reading? I'll teach you simple steps you can take to simplify the reading section and raise your score. I like to start by teaching you how to identify the main idea of a passage, and then work from there. Once you know the main idea of a paragraph, you can work on questions about supporting statements and specifics about the reading section. Having trouble in History? I can make history come alive for you. And if that doesn't work, drawing up timelines and using flashcards to remember pertinent names and information will. Mnemonics also help to connect important figures with their legacies.
And I don't like simple memorization. If standard memorization doesn't work, making simple games might. I've found matching flashcard games to be a wonderful tool to remember names and figures in history, and to help learn the basic facets of how to read and analyze a literary passage.
I look forward to being able to help you excel the same way that I did. I'll work with you, and make sure that each subject you have trouble in will get its own personalized plan of attack. I won't try to force my lesson plan on you, we'll create one that fits your needs together.
I look forward to working with you!!
