Hello!

My name is Faris and I could be the tutor you've been looking for!

I recently graduated from Temple University with a degree in English. I am currently pursuing my MEd with a certification in secondary education, English. In addition to attending school, I have worked as an assistant teacher in a preschool for almost five years. While I have had a wonderful experience and learned a ton, I am looking forward to putting my English knowledge into action!

I believe that many students can break through their personal barriers and surpass their own goals with some one-on-one instruction. I know that writing, vocabulary, and literature are daunting and difficult for many students and I feel that I am able to remove the "fear-factor" and make these things accessible while improving the student's confidence.

Vocabulary

An extensive vocabulary is important for effective writing. I can help students learn assigned vocabulary through creative, fun, and engaging exercises.

Grammar

Proper grammar is a very important skill to learn. I am confident in my ability to demonstrate correct grammar, which can often be confusing and difficult.

Writing

Writing is difficult for many students. I have a lot of experience writing research papers, literary analysis papers, and in creative writing. I will help the student through their writing process, starting with outlines and rough drafts and finishing with a polished finished product. I will also provide, if needed, writing exercises to help the student develop his or her writing skills.

Literature

Many students encounter texts that they are not familiar with, contain confusing language, or are simply uninteresting to them. I have a passion for literature and I also understand that not everyone finds joy in reading. My objective is to help the student work through their reading assignments while developing comprehension and critical thinking skills. This will help the student to understand what they are working on currently and to apply these skills to other assignments.

Proofreading

English grammar is difficult to learn and teach, but it is very important. I am willing and prepared to help students proofread assignments while using interesting and engaging examples and exercises to help the student develop proper grammar.
