I am a graduate of Temple University. I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Secondary Ed, English and five years' teaching experience at the high school Level. I previously held PA certification; although it is expired, I still retain my knowledge and experience. When I am able I will be returning to school to pursue my master's degree. I am talented at creative writing, research papers, basic computer use, literature comprehension, proofreading, resume and cover letter writing, and anything else English/Grammar/Creative Writing related. Also, I have some experience working with students with learning disabilities. I am very patient, proactive, and student oriented. I am capable of working with students of most age groups above 5th grade, including college level studies.

In addition to my educational background, I have over 20 years' experience working with children of all age groups from infant to adolescent in the capacity of a personal caregiver, a camp counselor and educator. When working with children I use patience most of all. I also have a repertoire of teaching techniques such as incentives and rewards for positive outcomes and success in learning. I try to be creative, understanding, compassionate and patient with struggling learners. I also participated in a conference on literacy where I learned skills for helping struggling readers at the high school/middle school levels.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have completed Public Speaking Courses in high school and at the college level. In my teaching experience I instructed my students on speech writing and delivery in class. Additionally, I have assisted individuals with speech writing, research for producing speeches and coached them on timing, memorization and presentation as well.

Study Skills

In my experience as an educator I provided students with instruction on study techniques. My background in English, grammar and writing has given me a great deal of insight on techniques that work. I have also taught student with mild learning disabilities so I have knowledge of a range of techniques to support diverse learners.

As part of my responsibilities for a previous employer I implemented study guides, conducted practice drills, and supported struggling students with test preparation skills. I can provide study skills techniques in the subject areas of English, grammar, literature, poetry study, test preparation and social studies.

Writing

As a hobby I write short stories and poetry. I attended the high school for Creative and performing Arts where I was a Creative Writing major. As a high School English teacher I provided instruction on writing essays, speeches, research papers, book reports, resumes and cover letters.
