With an undergraduate degree in Biology/Pre-Med from LaSalle University, I am currently preparing for the GRE so I can go to graduate school. After graduate school, I aspire to go to medical school to become a physician. As a physician, teacher, and/or a mentor, my ultimate goal in life is to be able to make a positive difference in people's lives.
I've had the opportunity of working with Say Yes to Education as a Math Intern for three summer programs. Along with preparing the curriculum for other interns and helping them teach it, I also tutored students who were struggling with Math. Another recent experience I had working with children was at Congreso's North Star After School Program, where I helped students with their homework and guided them with their every day struggles.
From my past teaching experiences I've learned that when it comes to Math and Science, many students automatically have a frown on their faces. Knowing this, I try to utilize hands on manipulatives to help students overcome their struggle with these subjects and enjoy learning. Also, as a teacher, I like to inspire my students to not only get good grades but become critical thinkers and learners. And to implement this technique, I motivate my students to think, think, and think in order to come up with solutions as I do not believe in just handing over answers. Once students start thinking, they come to realize that they are capable of solving any problem presented with a little guidance.
