Dear Prospective Students,
My name is Anna, and I'd love to be your tutor.
I've loved reading and writing from an early age. In high school, I edited my school's literary magazine, took creative writing and advanced placement English courses, and scored highly on the SAT verbal section. I then went to Bryn Mawr College, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in anthropology. I found anthropological methods to be very similar to my own ways of analyzing the world, and I earned departmental honors in my field upon graduation. As part of my anthropology degree, I conducted an extensive research project on disability activism and policy in the Philadelphia area. This project was the beginning of my long-term interest in social justice and health care systems.
During college, I worked as a counselor at a number of different summer camps; everything from an academic enrichment program for gifted middle and high schoolers to a camp for children and teens with physical disabilities. These jobs have given me experience working with children of all age and ability levels.
Since college, I've held a number of different jobs: AmeriCorps volunteer, board game store worker, nanny. What all of these positions have in common is a healthy dose of human interaction and helping people. I'm always reading a book or news article, and I've been known to edit friends' papers for fun.
Thank you for your consideration. Let's talk about writing, English conversation, or anthropology soon.
Anna
