Most of my students initially classify math in the same category as the other four letter words. My teaching styles allow them to change their mind and at least respect the concepts enough to give me their best effort. They may not love math but they will be more comfortable learning the problem solving strategies I teach them.
My students will take a learning style survey. This lets me know how to teach them and it helps them understand how they process information in a classroom. I have been working with computers and math since the late seventies and I kept up with the mathematical changes over many decades. My former students range from the inner city schools through the corporate computer executives.
I maintain a high success rate of students improving their scores on their standardized tests because I set high standards in the classroom. I give students plenty of opportunities to let me know they do not understand the material. I want to know their short comings before the formal assessment. I get to know my students so I can personalize their lessons so they can be more successful. I still run into former students who thank me for being their math teacher.
I have a highly qualified ranking on my Delaware middle school and secondary mathematics license. I have a Middle School Mathematics Pennsylvania license. I have completed nine years in a formal classroom teaching profession in the Philadelphia school district in Pennsylvania in addition to the Appoquinimink and Christina school districts in Delaware. Home schooling and the Oxford Learning Center are other experiences. I am currently a mathematics tutor at Delaware County Community College.
I have a high success rate of helping fellow educators pass their Praxis I and middle school mathematics assessments. Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc) have had many releases over the years, and I have kept up with the new features.
I teach because I have a passion for having a positive impact on my students by helping them understand math concepts. I will continue to tutor when I retire from the formal classroom.
