I have a Pennsylvania Elementary Education certificate and more than 25 years of experience. This entails both teaching/tutoring and developing unit curricula. My extensive background will enable me to implement lessons, provide encouragement and make a positive connection with your child to unleash his or her greatest potential.
I have had years of experience with teaching elementary to middle school level mathematics for both regular ed and special needs students. I am passionate about having learners acquire basic operational skills in order to advance to higher level tasks. These tasks may include: numbers and operations, algebraic concepts, geometry, measurement, data and probability. I can help your child gain confidence and skills.
Grammar skills might mean the difference in earning a position or title. Today's colleges and job industries request that applicants submit extensive written essays and participate in personal interviews. Excellent verbal and written grammar skills are essential. Mastering phonics skills is an achievable goal. I utilize multiple techniques to help develop phonemic awareness and then provide opportunities for practice which lead to authentic reading and writing. I have succeeded in working with both children and adults.
My interest in public speaking began as a child. Later, I was a member of the high school debate team and also took college drama courses. I served as my school's liaison teacher and coached students for oratorical competitions for more than ten years. I am also prepared to work with adults. Some past students did obtain semi-finalists, finalists and first place winner status.
I have instructed reading as a teacher and tutor. I am highly trained and skilled to work with special needs and under-achieving learners. Emphasis is placed upon phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. I also include responding to literature as a means of analyzing. I am patient enough to meet you at your level and assist you to climb higher.
I have Pennsylvania Special Education certification (K-12). My experience is in the areas of: learning support, emotional support, at-risk programs, ADD/ADHD and resource room instruction. I have also had interaction with autistic students by providing support and implementing treatment plans designed by behavior specialists. Since I have created IEPs for years I am able to offer lessons which are uniquely developed to meet the need of your child.
Strong study skills equip individuals to meet life's challenges. There is an abundance of reading, writing, and technological navigation required to function in today's society. I help guide the students to identify and incorporate their unique learning style. Then, strategies are given for organizing, studying habits, researching, listening skills, note-taking and goal setting.
Vocabulary is essential to develop reading comprehension skills. One communicates with a parent, teacher, physician, banker, police officer, retailer, etc. There are forms to complete. Vocabulary usage should range from common to advanced words. The key is to learn when, where, how, and with whom to use specific vocabulary. I can help assist you in meeting your need to improve your skills.
I have loved to write since my childhood. I remember entering a contest for 5th and 6th graders. My teacher said that I won based upon true originality. Later, I began to write lengthier essays, poetry, skits, and musicals. Writing skills are essential to survive in this competitive world. Exclusive letter circling or check marking a selection for school assessments and job applications is obsolete. Open-ended responses and narrative explanations are now being required. I believe that I am qualified to help you with assignments or job and college applications because of my extensive writing experiences.
