I possess certifications in both elementary and special education. I graduated from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio and earned a BA degree. My cooperative educational experiences as an Antiochian included contact with: learning disabled, mentally impaired, physically impaired, and visually impaired learners.
Graduate studies were continued at Antioch, Philadelphia, PA and resulted in earning a M.Ed. Two-year course work was done at Pennsylvania College of Optometry with the teacher program for visual impairment.
As a teacher/tutor with over 25 years experience, I have taught grade and subject classes at elementary, middle and high school levels. I have also worked with adults in alternative educational programs. My skills as a special needs teacher have been demonstrated through resource room, learning support, emotional support, high risk, and therapeutic support programs. I tutor reading, English, phonics, math, and elementary test prep.
I also provide services for study skills, essay writing, public speaking, career development, and college readiness (applications/forms, interview process and funding).
My passion for teaching has motivated me to assist students to achieve a 2-3+ year gain. I have been successful with older non-readers and have seen similar results. Learning should be desirable and enjoyable rather rigid. These extensive teaching/tutoring years of experience will allow me to provide your with child innovative one-one specifically designed lessons. My approach is: Design The Lesson To Fit The Needs Of The Learner!
