Hello,
My name is Robert O. I am a 25 year old composer and life long lover of music. Just A little background on myself: I began playing trumpet in 3rd grade, and guitar in 7th grade. I always liked playing, and through high school, I joined all of the groups I could: marching and concert band, orchestra, jazz band, jazz combo, and pit for the school musicals. However I did not consider making music my career until 9th grade, when I learned that my school offered Music Theory. I took Music Theory I in 10th grade and immediately decided that I wanted to be a composer. The next two years, I became obsessed with composition. I took Music Theory II and AP Music Theory, and spent about all of my free time composing. In my senior year, I wrote a composition for the orchestra to play at graduation.
After graduation, I studied Composition at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where I tested out of 3 semesters of Music Theory and Aural Activities (ear training and sight singing), completed 6 semesters of private composition lessons, and wrote pieces for many ensembles, including String Orchestra, Piano Trio, Wind Ensemble, String Quartet, and others. I also took all of the courses necessary for a Minor in Music History, but did not apply for the minor, so it isn't officially on my degree. I graduated in May 2010 with a GPA of 3.49.
In my last year at West Chester I began learning audio production on my own, and since graduation I've started a small recording studio and music production company where I've been producing local acts.
Because I've only been out of school for 2 years now and I've been somewhat consumed by my business, I haven't been able yet to gain formal experience in teaching. However, throughout my life as a musician, my talent, dedication, and maybe most importantly my love of music, have naturally made me a good teacher. Since early on, I've been the go-to for many of my friends and classmates who have needed help, tutoring, or just answers to some questions about music. I have an ability to explain musical concepts using analogies, and because of my knowledge of Music History, I can always find real world examples from the literature.
To sum it all up, I have an extensive knowledge and training in music, in the areas of Composition, Theory, History, and more recently Recording and Production, and I (and those I've worked with) strongly believe that I would make a great teacher. So that said, I'm really looking forward to meeting some potential students.
