Hi! My name is Daniel and I've been tutoring for about ten years. I went to high school at St. Joe's Prep in Philadelphia, graduated from Cornell University in 2013, and am a student at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. I majored in mathematical physics and minored in Spanish while fulfilling premed requirements, and have an extremely strong background in math, physics, chemistry, and biology. Additionally, I am proficient in Spanish and an excellent programmer in Java.

In addition to normal subject work, I offer a variety of services in English and standardized test preparation. I have been proofreading papers since 2009, was ranked as one of the top 10 Extemporaneous speakers in the United States during high school, received 5's on 11 AP exams, and received a score of 2370 on the SATs. As such, I offer tutoring in a many English subjects, public speaking, and test preparation.

I have been teaching in assorted fields as a tutor, EMT training officer, and tennis pro, and can offer help to any type of student from those struggling to keep up to those who are already excelling but want to push themselves more. I will take the time to get to know each student's style of learning so that we can make the most progress in a way that is tailored to their needs. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I received a degree in mathematics Cornell University, and have experience tutoring in both the abstract and problem-solving oriented aspects of algebra 1, from the basic theory of variables and equations to those tricky word problems about farmers who want to fence in their fields in extremely convoluted ways.

Algebra 2

I received a degree in mathematics Cornell University, and have experience tutoring in both the abstract and problem-solving oriented aspects of algebra 2, from inequalities with real numbers to finding all sorts of asymptotes.

Anatomy

I completed the premedical track at Cornell University, and have taken General Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology. I have studied all the major classes of organisms, but specialize in human anatomy and physiology due to my premed studies and my experiences as a practicing EMT.

Astronomy

I received a degree in mathematical physics from Cornell University, and have had 5 years of exposure to topics in Astronomy and Relativity. I have experience in both the technical equations that describe astronomical phenomena and theoretical discussions of interesting things like black holes and string theory.

Biology

I completed the premedical track at Cornell University, and have taken General Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology. I also took Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry with a focus on how those disciplines fit into and complement the study of general biology.

Calculus

I received a degree in mathematics from Cornell University, and have extensive experience tutoring in Calculus. I have taken far too many math classes related to calculus, from an introductory high school class to intensive real analysis where we rigorously proved the standard formulas of calculus after spending three weeks defining what exactly constitutes a number. I'm happy to tutor anywhere on the spectrum from help remembering formulas to proving why the formulas exist in the first place.

Chemistry

As part of fulfilling premed requirements, I have taken both college and high school chemistry. I have extensive experience helping students who struggle in chemistry as well as those who are find themselves with less time than they would like to prepare for exams.

Elementary Math

I received a degree in mathematics from Cornell University, and have been tutoring in math for eight years. I have experience tutoring in all types of basic math, from counting and basic arithmetic through telling time and word problems.

Geometry

I received a degree in mathematics from Cornell University, and geometry was the first subject that got me interested in math. I have used geometry in classes from elementary school to college, and have been tutoring in it since high school. I would be happy to help with any part of the subject from basic concepts to introductory proof theory.

Java

I have experience programming in Java in both classroom and laboratory settings. Additionally, I got a 5 on the AP Computer Science AB exam, which was conducted in Java and ended with a mandatory free-response question entitled BugWorld.

Linear Algebra

I am a Math Major at Cornell University, and have extensive experience tutoring in all sorts of math. I learned linear algebra at the level of Apostol's "Calculus vol. 2." I have applied this subject in Quantum Mechanics, Analytical Mechanics, numerical problem solving, and Abstract Algebra.

MCAT

I took the MCATs once and got a 40, putting me in the 99.5th to 99.9th percentile, and I already have substantial experience with standardized test tutoring from my work with SAT and AP students. I have also taken multiple college courses in all of the subject areas that are covered on the MCAT, including those that will be added in the the upcoming updates.

Organic Chemistry

I took three semesters of organic chemistry at Cornell, and can help with both textbook problems and lab techniques. I also did extensive preparation in organic chemistry while studying for the MCATs, and have worked in multiple organic chem study groups with a variety of techniques.

Physics

I received a degree in mathematical physics from Cornell University. I have taken classes in classical mechanics, special relativity, analytical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics. I have also been exposed to topics in classical optics, astronomy, and general relativity.

Over the past 5 years, I have gained experience tutoring physics at both the high school and college levels. In addition to classroom work, I have worked in two Physics laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania.

Physiology

I am on the premedical track at Cornell University, and have taken General Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology. I have studied all the major classes of organisms, but specialize in human anatomy and physiology due to my premed studies and my experiences as a practicing EMT.

Prealgebra

I am a Math Major at Cornell University, and have experience tutoring in all levels of mathematics. I'll work on any prealgebra topic using an approach based on practice and patience.

Precalculus

I am a Math Major at Cornell University, and have experience tutoring in both the abstract and problem-solving oriented aspects of precalculus, from inequalities with real numbers to limits.

PSAT

I received a score 2370 on my SATs; scores of 790, 750, and 800 on three SAT II subject tests; and was a National Merit Scholarship winner. While there is no real replacement for hard work and practice tests, I can offer experience, strategies, and structure with proven results.

Public Speaking

I competed extensively in Speech and Debate while in high school. By the end of my junior year career, I was ranked in the top 10 in the country in Extemporaneous Speaking. I also won multiple tournaments in Student Congress and Impromptu Speaking. In college, I routinely plan and give presentations to groups of up to hundreds of people, including students, faculty, and administrators.

Reading

I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember, and can tutor in all areas of the subject. I can offer basic reading help that includes grammar and fluency all the way up through standardized test preparation. I received a score 2370 on my SATs, including 800's on both the reading and writing sections. I also received scores of 790, 750, and 800 on three SAT II subject tests and was a National Merit Scholarship winner. My standardized test experience also includes 5's on 11 AP Tests.

I received a score 2370 on my SATs, including an 800 on the writing section. In addition to helping students improve their general writing skills, I can show them how to optimize their essays to fit the specific requirements of the SATs.

Spanish

I am proficient in Spanish after taking it for four years in high school and three years in college. I am up to the level of taking literature classes conducted entirely in Spanish (most recently on Don Quijote), and have traveled to the Dominican Republic. Additionally, I got a 5 on the AP Spanish Language exam and a 750 on the Spanish Reading SAT II.
