When you think of German do you think of the Austrian Alps from Sound of Music? The ultra-cosmopolitan city of Berlin with it's divided history and united future? Perhaps you think of Bavarian beer and sausages, or Swiss chocolate and Swiss banks. Mozart? Beethoven? Max Planck? Einstein? 20th century history? 21st century Euro Zone powerhouse?
The German language itself is as fascinating as German culture and history. When tutoring I share my enthusiasm for the language with my students -- youth and adults -- and enjoy helping them reach whatever level of proficiency they care to. Some want to pick up a bit of German to enrich a vacation experience. Some people want to read original German documents for a hobby or for their career. Some want to be proficient speakers and writers. I've taught German for all levels and interests to students and adults.
I spent time at the University of Hamburg as a student, taught undergraduate courses for 4 years at the University of Pennsylvania where I received a Master's Degree in German Literature, then spent 2 more years as a lecturer at the Univ. of Pennsylvania. In the beginning though, I started it all by teaching myself, so I know what it is like to move from that exciting but confusing stage to one of proficiency. And I love helping others do the same.
