I am a PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Biology. Am a regular Teaching assistant in my department teaching BIO 101 and 102 introductory Biology courses to a class of 20 undergraduate students. I have 3 years of experience teaching in the department and have tutored students for multiple courses.
My proficiency lies in teaching any level of undergraduate biology course with special emphasis on genetics and molecular biology. I have excellent teaching reviews from my students and have been actively involved in mentoring students as well.
My teaching mantra is to make the students understand the basic concepts and let them build their knowledge on their own. According to me, the way to tackle any problem is to break into smaller steps and begin with the smallest ones first. Active learning techniques are stressful initially but go a long way in developing a sound foundation for understanding and independent thinking.
My strength lies in the fact that I am very patient with my students. Learning is not an easy process but once it is mastered then my teaching method will be extremely fruitful. Constant encouragement and free thinking along with focus on gaining knowledge is my teaching strategy.
