Hello all,
My name is Ken. I have several years of experience working as a tutor at the high school and collegiate levels. I tutored one high school junior last year in history, biology, geometry, and, most importantly, reading and writing. I also volunteered for two as a tutor at a high school in the Bronx during my college career. At Fordham University I was selected as the official undergraduate tutor for the philosophy department (reading and writing intensive), but worked also as a tutor through the English department. I am most effective tutoring reading and writing in all subject areas (history, literature, sociology, etc.) but am also competent in mathematics to the pre-calculus level. I have an exceptional grasp of English grammar that I developed throughout my college years, but also through my extensive studies of Latin, German, and Spanish. I have learned that it is necessary to be dynamic and accommodating of other peoples' learning styles when working with them.
As I mentioned, I graduated from Fordham University in 2010 with degrees in Philosophy and Urban Studies. I was 50th in my class of almost 700, finishing with a cumulative GPA of 3.795. Before that I attended St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia. I have spent several month stints in Germany, Czech Republic, and Uruguay, and have traveled to more than a dozen other countries. I currently work as a teacher's assistant to children with autism and am very much familiar working with children with a range of developmental disabilities (ADD, ADHD, PDD, learning disabilities). Last year, I also worked with an autistic child in a 3rd grade inclusion classroom, where I also helped extensively with the other students in the class.
