Hey I'm Derek! I am great with kids, high school and college students, and have my fair share of tutoring 40+ students of all ages. I am currently pursuing a masters degree with my wife at Valley Forge Christian College just outside of King of Prussia. Nonetheless, I do have a flexible schedule and am available to begin tutoring immediately in any of the following subjects: biology (AP, College level courses including microbiology, physiology, genetics etc), biochemistry, physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry and math. I am able to travel to students homes or a public meeting place within feasible distances. I have also had much success with multiple students tutors via Skype to accommodate those outside of the greater Philadelphia area.
A little bit about me and my experience...
I graduated cum laude from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in cell & molecular biology, minor in chemistry and minor in studio art (drawing concentration). My professional tutoring experience began at West Chester in the university tutoring center where students who received an A in the course managed managed multiple tutoring sessions per week with around 4 students per 60 minute session. Other roles such as orientation leader, student ambassador and certified student leader, enhanced my leadership skills and helped me communicate with and manage student better.
Since graduation, I have continued to tutor privately though WyzAnt and other tutoring websites with much success. I enjoy tutoring those who have an interest in learning and are willing to take my tips and tricks to heart. I expect that students come prepared for tutoring sessions with an understanding of their current assignments and topics for discussion so that I can understand the level and teaching style of the class as well as conduct sample questions and draw-out explanations accordingly.
I have a great personality and sense of humor as well as a significant amount of leadership experience. I have a lot of experience with studying for and passing science tests. Often, students like to just understand why they have to know something and need someone to present the "boring" information in a way they can understand it. That's where I come in. I have lots of test taking tips and strategies since I've taken my fair share of them (including the MCAT). I'm confident that I can help make the subject you struggle with relevant and hopefully have a bit of fun learning it in the process.
