I have more than 9 years experience teaching in urban elementary and middle school settings. This includes time spent as a classroom teacher teaching all subject areas: Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. I have also spent many years teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and Computer Science. Additionally, I have taught English classes abroad, often creating my own curriculum to meet the needs of my students. I have also taught Children's Yoga in after-school programs and local community centers, and frequently incorporate yoga and mindfulness meditations into my daily lessons. Students need to stay focused and find their inner peace, too! I have also tutored adults in everything from ESL to GED preparation.

I like to get to know a student's academic background and interests as we begin our tutoring sessions. Previous test scores and other assessments are important, but portfolio work and a student's personal input are equally important. Once the area of weakness is clearly identified, I work to focus not only on the target area, but also to enhance the student's strengths in related areas. I like to address the whole student, not just the weakness. We will work together to create the best plan of action for you, the student.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's degree in Education with a focus on Elementary Education. I have taught for over 9 years in the Philadelphia public school system focusing on grades K-8. I taught 5th grade, all content subject areas: reading, math, science, and social studies, for two and a half years. Additionally, I taught a self-contained 6th grade classroom for one year, and 2nd grade for one year.

I've spent many years teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in grades K-8, which I am also certified in for grades, K-12. Instruction focused on developing students' skills in English in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Every year my classroom is a designated ESL-friendly classroom.

I have a PA Instructional II Certified Add on - ESL Specialist K-12.
I am PA Instructional II Certified - English 7-12.
