I focus on helping a student move ahead and make sure they have a strong foundation. Each student is an individual and I adapt everything I do to help them learn in the way that is best suited to their needs.

I am an SAT prep expert. I figured out the skills and tricks needed to ace the test and used them to achieve a perfect score on the math and reading sections.

I received my master's from St. Joseph's University in Elementary and Special Education. In addition, I have a teacher certification through the Philadelphia Teaching Fellows, which is a highly selective alternative certification program. I have been tutoring for the past eight years and love helping students learn. I have experience tutoring in math (up to Algebra II), reading, computer applications and SAT/ACT test prep tutoring. I also have two years of teaching experience as a teacher at The Young Women's Leadership School at Rhodes where I taught Middle School Math my first year and Algebra II this past year.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I've taught it in both a classroom and one-on-one setting. It is the foundation for all more advanced math and is where math starts to really get interesting.

I am able to help people with Algebra by finding their strengths and weaknesses and giving them material at the exact right level.

Aspergers

I tutored a student with Aspergers on the SAT and helped him achieve a 300 point improvement. I also tutored another student with Aspergers on Algebra 1 to help him transition from a special education classroom to an inclusion setting.

I found working with students with Aspergers to be very rewarding and would love to work with a student from this population again.

I am getting my Master's in Special Education and Elementary Education from Saint Joseph's University and have taught special education classes.

Desktop Publishing

I taught Desktop Publishing at Rhodes High School in Philadelphia to two classes. One class was composed of Honors 7th graders and the other class was a mixed class of 9-12 graders.

I also worked in IT for years doing computer troubleshooting for a local law firm.

In have a minor in Digital Arts and IST from Penn State and completed significant course work from their Computer Science department.

General Computer

My first tutoring job every was tutoring adults on computers. As a junior at Penn State, I joined an innovative program where students provided assistance to professors on better using computers for their classes.

After I graduated, I worked in an IT support position at Grateful Abstract which is a local law firm and title company. My position there involved keeping their 15 computers running and providing training and technical support to their staff as needed.

I have since taught two high school classes on computer applications.

ISEE

In both math and reading, I can help your student succeed as you try to get into the private school of your choice. As a former teacher and an experienced tutor I am an expert on both the subject matter of the test and on how to best help your student learn.

In addition to being qualified as a test prep tutor, I have specific experience tutoring students for the ISEE. As a test prep expert I've been able to help students both get into private schools and obtain scholarships. I know how best to ace a standardize test and hope to help your student get the score he or she needs.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is one of my favorite programs to teach because Excel is a powerful tool once you learn how to use it. Whether you are just learning your way around with it or want to learn formulas to speed up your work, I can help.

I taught Excel as part of a Desktop Publishing course at Rhodes High School in Philadelphia to two classes.

I also saved an office where I did IT work hours and hours of work by creating an Excel template that converted banking data into a format compatible with their custom program.

In have a minor in Digital Arts and IST from Penn State and completed significant course work from their Computer Science department.

Microsoft Publisher

I taught Desktop Publishing (including Microsoft Publisher) at Rhodes High School in Philadelphia to two classes. One class was composed of Honors 7th graders and the other class was a mixed class of 9-12 graders.

I also worked in IT for years doing computer troubleshooting for a local law firm.

In have a minor in Digital Arts and IST from Penn State and completed significant course work from their Computer Science department.

Praxis

I received the ETS Recognition of Excellence on PRAXIS II Mathematics: Content Knowledge and can help you with math so you can get the score you need to become a teacher.

I can help you with the PRAXIS I math section as well as the PRAXIS II.

SAT Math

SAT Math is one of my strongest subjects. I received a perfect score on the SAT Math section and have helped a lot of students make improvements on this section.

In addition to being a math teacher, I also know all the tricks to use to improve your score on this section and on the SAT in general.

SAT Reading

I have tutored numerous students on the SAT reading section. As a tutor with 8 years of experience I feel I know all the tips and techniques needed to help train your student on how to succeed in this section.

By helping students learn vocabulary in context, teaching students to become active readers and familiarizing students with the type of questions asked I help students improve their score on the test and have used these techniques myself to achieve a perfect score on the SAT reading section.

Special Needs

I am just finishing up my Master's at Saint Joseph's University in Special Education and Elementary Education.

SAT tutoring saved my family $14,500. This may sound like a wild claim but hear me out. When I was a high school student my parents spent approximately $1,500 on private tutoring. After working with the tutor for a while I started to get perfect scores on the practice tests. On the actual SAT I got 1500 out of 1600 (I probably should have taken it again to get the perfect score but I'll save... read more
