I have a somewhat unique background which includes both science and religion with proficiency in math, chemistry, Biblical studies and theology. Having received a BS in Chemistry from Drexel Univerity, I had worked as a research chemist in the industry for many years. In the past decade, I renewed my interest in religious studies and attained two MA degrees, one in Theology and the other in Spirituality. My strengths include an intense interest in subject matter, especially Biblical themes as related to contemporary topics, knowledge of early church history as well foundational theology. I have a strong desire to teach and mentor in the development of the student’s grasp of our Christian and Jewish roots in spirituality.
In my faith community, I currently lead the adult education forum and committee at St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill, which includes Bible study, worship, Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina and Listening Hearts Ministry. I co-mentor and instruct the Education for Ministry (EfM) seminar, a four year program for the laity that includes an in-depth critical examination of both the Hebrew and Christian Testaments coupled with Theology, Church History and Spirituality. Our exploration includes a careful study of the Documentary Hypothesis in its application to the Old Testament as well as an introduction and application to the Historical Critical Method. This careful study of scripture examines both the exegetical as well as spiritual approach to the Pentateuch, the Deuteronomic history, Wisdom Literature, Prophets, Synoptic Gospels, Johannine corpus, Pauline literature, Catholic letters and Revelation. A brief overview of several non-canonical texts such as the apocryphal gospels of Thomas and Mary Magdalene are also included. In addition, once a month I also lead a group spiritual direction session as well as co-facilitate a spiritual director’s peer group.
Located in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia, we can have the session at my office or at your residence. I look forward to working with you in your endeavors. As a lifelong avocation, I also teach classical guitar as an extra bonus.
