I have been working with children diagnosed with Special Needs for more than 5 years. I have a son who has been diagnosed with Autism and have created an after school tutoring center that specializes in tutoring children with special needs, especially children on the Autism Spectrum. Within the last 6 years, I have been working in the School District of Philadelphia in Autistic Support, Emotional Support and Learning Support classrooms with children from grades K-8. Each curriculum that is created for your student is a specialized academic curriculum tailored to each child's and parent's specific individual goals included in the IEP or IFSP.
Helping children in the classroom setting to grasp the concepts of basic creative life skills, basic educational skills and functional behavior modification is important to me because I want to see every child succeed in education. I also work one-to-one and in group settings to teach sharing and transitioning into activities without tantrums. My goal is to invite and encourage parents to help develop and follow the daily routines to help the child to become more comfortable with the daily routines in school during the week as well as in the classroom.
If the child is non-verbal the parents and I create a Picture Exchange Communication System board or have helped parents to get Assistive Technology to help with verbal communication and being able to understand daily routines. This is so that the child is able to communicate with parents, teachers and friends. This type of schedule also helps with planning daily routines and the Assistive Technology devices help the child to communicate verbally.
The majority of the lesson plans that I create are compliant to PA State Educational References and there are specific websites in which I am able to provide to children and families to develop and strengthen basic educational skill while making learning fun. Education should be fun and exciting and that is what my goal is when working with Special Needs Children and with the parents.
I look forward to working with you and your child.
