I am currently a seventh grade Special Education math teacher. I am a big proponent of implementing differentiated instruction in order to meet the needs of all of my students. A combination of whole group and small group instruction, manipulatives, technology and modifications and accommodations to the curriculum has helped me to achieve my goal of meeting the needs of all of my students and raising test scores. My classes’ Benchmark and Predictive scores have significantly increased both years.

My teaching career began as a participant in the Philadelphia Teaching Fellows Program which is a highly selective, alternate route program that recruits outstanding professionals and recent college graduates to teach in high need subject areas and schools in Philadelphia. My mission, as well as the program’s mission, is to close the achievement gap in Philadelphia Schools. As a Teaching Fellow, I attended a rigorous pre-service training program as well as variety of graduate and teacher certification courses at Arcadia University. In combination with my coursework and training, I have also passed all of the necessary Praxis exams to obtain my Instructional I Certifications in Special Education, grades N-12 and General Science, grades 7-12.

I have a strong passion and desire to teach, advocate and empower underprivileged youth. I gained knowledge and skills and was able to express my passion throughout my volunteer, internship, training and teaching experiences. I engage students through facilitating interesting discussions, lessons and hands-on experiences. I listen to my students. I am unbiased, non-judgmental and I value diversity. I accept individuals for who they are and I see potential in everyone. I believe that these character traits are some of the most important qualities that a successful teacher must possess to ensure academic success for all students. I am committed to providing a high quality education in which my students will achieve success and become lifelong learners, both academically and socially.

I am passionate, patient and ambitious and I am not afraid to work hard. I will go above and beyond to fulfill the requirements of my position and to achieve success. I am confident that I will continue to be a great excellent tutor.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching middle school mathematics for the past four years. I also taught middle school science this year, so I have been teaching for a total of 5 years. I am confident in the fact that I would be able to teach and tutor students/children in grades K-6 who need assistance in math and science. I am highly qualified and have years of experience teaching these subjects and each year builds upon the last.
