Math was not my top subject in school, but I recently was certified in Algebra I, and I've learned to appreciate its straight-forward nature. Plus, you really do need to know this stuff later in life! Because I wasn't the best Math student, I can easily relate to struggling students and make sure Algebra is no longer like a foreign language.
History has always been my favorite subject--from childhood, through earning a History degree from Georgetown University, to my readings and activities today. I've tutored dozens of students in various history courses through AP level, helping them remember the facts and analyze the significance of events.

My 7 years of middle school teaching experience has prepared me to prepare students for the rigors of any standardized test. I know a wide variety of test taking strategies and the best way to share those with students. In addition, I teach a weekly class to 7th and 8th grade private school students to prepare them for the HSPT, coaching them through various practice tests and the actual HSPT.
I spent 7 years as a 6th grade teacher in a public middle school. Many of my students were far below grade level and I worked with elementary school materials to help bring them on level. I've also tutored many students in Math and Writing at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels.

I'm one of those few people left who care about grammar! Call me during that month in the school year when teachers are told they have to fit in that grammar unit--and your child's head is spinning. Not only do I know and love grammar, I have 3 years' experience as a full-time editor with additional freelance writing and editing since then.
I scored 176 on the Social Studies subject practice, 197 (excellent) on the English Lit content knowledge, and 155 on the pedagogy test. My comprehensive scores was 556.
Math was never my favorite subject growing up, but I recently taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra to homeschool students and learned to love it! My unique position as a "non Math" person helps me connect with all students and find unique ways to communicate the Math concepts.
In addition to a degree in English from Georgetown University, my 3 years as an Editor at medical and nonfiction publishing houses trained me to dot every i and cross every t!
I can work with your child in person on revision skills or edit papers online--either way I make sure to do more than just hand back a perfect paper. I teach each student how to fix their work so you won't need me next time!
Most students have never even heard of the rules they need to know for the SAT writing multiple choice. With my experience in publishing and test prep, I give them the skills they need to master this test.
On top of my Special Education ancillary certification, I worked closely with Special Education coteachers in inclusion classrooms for 8 years. I know the personal and political sides to special needs students and can work one-on-one with you and your student to craft a program that gives him confidence and skills.
I taught middle school English for 7 years, during which I worked constantly to prepare students to effectively work and study on their own. I've tutored students in grades 6-12 in homework preparation and currently teach 7th and 8th grade private school students on Saturday mornings in social and study skills.
I've been a writer since I could first form letters. I know the rules and strategies to help your child write well and write fluently. I also provide proofreading and editing services, making sure your child understands how to fix his mistakes so you don't need me next time!
