One of my passions in life is educating young children. I especially love working with children to immerse them in literacy. Literacy involves reading, writing, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, oral speaking, and study skills. Literacy is not word calling nor is it completing language arts workbooks. Literacy is the fundamental form of communication in our world. My goal is to increase students' confidence and encourage independent reading and writing and to instill a love of literacy.

As a Certified Reading Specialist, I have the tools and the tricks of the trade to help your child become a more proficient reader.

Elementary Math

As an elementary classroom teacher, I taught Math as part of our core curriculum. My approach to teaching Math is what I consider "conceptual learning and skill based". If a student can grasp the basic concepts of mathematical operations, they have a much better chance of being successful. Teaching Math should be hands-on and interactive so that everyday applications will make sense.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught elementary school in self-contained classrooms for 17 years. I have a Reading Specialist Certification, as well as an Elementary Education Certification. I have taught all subjects at the elementary level. During my last three years with the School District of Philadelphia, I was the Language Arts Specialist in our building. Phonics

As a Pennsylvania Certified Reading Specialist, I am more than qualified to teach Phonics. Most of my early years of teaching were spent in grades 1-3 where Phonics was taught on a daily basis.

Study Skills

As a Pennsylvania Reading Specialist, I spent a great deal of time being trained on how to teach across the curriculum. Many of the strategies taught included study skills such as graphic organizers, visualization, outlining, and summarizing. I used many of the strategies in all grades.
