I was a substitute teacher for 3 years in Philly charter schools.
In high school, I passed Advanced Placement tests in English and American History. Penn State awarded me 8 advanced placement credits in Spanish. I graduated college in just 3 years instead of the usual 4. Why? How? Good study habits.
Can you do that too and still have a life? Sure. I'll show you.
I played Little League baseball with the Bustleton Boys Club for four years as a teenager. I subscribed to Baseball Digest, The Baseball Bulletin, and The Sporting News as a teenager. I've travelled around the country to visit numerous Major League Baseball and minor league baseball stadiums and games. One of my hobbies is baseball history. At Penn State, I wrote a term paper for a course entitled "American Studies 105" on the infamous Black Sox Scandal of 1919. I got an "A" for the paper and for the course. I also was a Little League umpire in two leagues for the children of two of my coworkers in Lancaster County. One of my other hobbies is following the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team on a daily basis.
I am 6 feet tall so have a natural interest in basketball. I played intramural basketball with the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization boys club as a teenager. I also played pick up games after high school let out with friends at Lackman Playground in Northeast Philadelphia and on the street in my neighborhood. I have been a fan of the Philadelphia 76ers most of my life. I also have attended NCAA basketball games at Penn State, Bucknell University, and Penn. In law school, I coached an intramural squad of law students in basketball.
I was a volunteer for a couple months with a Lancaster County literacy project during the early 1990s. I tutored a middle-aged Hispanic woman in English. I am proficient in Spanish so am able to speak Spanish to communicate with students knowing Spanish as their primary language.
I passed the AP English test in high school. I won a certificate in fifth grade as the champion speller of my grade at Greenberg Elementary School and finished third overall behind two sixth graders in our school spelling bee. I have worked as a substitute teacher in helping students to read by sounding out words.
