I have relied on Photoshop for 11 of my 14 years as a photographer for all of my essential image-editing. I began by using Photoshop 4.0, and have upgraded periodically to recent versions of this powerful software. I learned the basics as a student at Community College of Philadelphia, and over the last 11 years have enhanced my education through over a dozen workshops and conferences with representatives from Adobe and various professional photographers recognized for their achievements with this software.
I can begin by teaching all of the Photoshop essentials, from image cropping and color-correcting, to experimenting with levels, curves, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast, and other advanced tools under the image-adjustments menu. Learn about image size and resolution, color space concerns, sharpening, keyboard shortcuts, retouching techniques, and the uses of all of the tools in the tools palette. More advanced users will learn about the advantages of using layers and channels, layer masks, and other tools for enhanced image-editing. I am also open to requests to teach specific advanced techniques.
I have been playing baseball for over 28 years. In middle and high school I excelled as a right-handed pitcher, winning a total of 4 M.V.P. awards for both my school and little league teams, and was voted to numerous all-star teams at all levels. I played 2 years of American Legion ball during high school, and have continued playing both baseball and fast-pitch softball up until today. I spent 2 summers at the I.S.I. as a teenager, the Instructional Baseball Institute, where I learned technique in hitting, fielding, and pitching from former pros.
As a player, I rely heavily on a strong technical foundation. I can break down the mechanics of pitching from the rubber or from the stretch, as well as provide assistance with grips and release points for various pitches. I also am well-versed in all aspects of the game from the rules and strategies, to base-running, hitting and fielding.
I am proficient in Brazilian percussion, with experience playing many different instruments featured in styles of music from all regions of Brazil. My specialties are the pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine) and the repinique (lead drum in a samba percussion section), but I have played virtually all instruments featured in styles from northeast Brazil all the way to Rio. I currently perform with 2 Brazilian bands in the Philadelphia region that play a mix of bossanova, samba, samba reggae, maracatu, axé, forró, and funk.
I am a musician with over 30 years of experience, including 12 years as a professional. I began on the piano as a child, studying both classical and jazz styles along the way. I added percussion to my studies over 12 years ago, learning the basics of the Afro-Cuban repertoire on multiple instruments, and over the last 8 years have specialized in Brazilian percussion in particular. My primary instruments are the pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine) and the repinique (the lead drum in a samba bateria). I currently play percussion in two Brazilian bands, and piano in an R&B/Soul band.
I have run a successful freelance photography business for over 13 years. During this time I have photographed for the Associated Press, the Philadelphia Daily News, and the City Paper in addition to numerous other national papers and organizations. I specialize in several areas including portraits, events, landscapes and documentary photography. I started with photography at age 6, and continued working with film-based cameras and black-and-white processing throughout high school and college, and during the first several years of my professional career. During this time I completed secondary coursework in Photoshop, color printing, large-format and studio photography. Since making the switch to digital, I have become proficient with the new technologies including numerous camera systems, Photoshop and many other editing programs such as Photo Mechanic and Lightroom on both Mac and PC operating systems. I also am proficient in lighting techniques with compact flash units as well as studio strobes. I am passionate about what I do, and love to share my knowledge and experience with others.
