I have run a successful freelance photography business
for over 13 years. During this time I have photographed for the Associated Press, the Philadelphia Daily News, and the City Paper in addition to numerous other national papers and organizations. I specialize in several areas including portraits, events, landscapes and documentary photography. I started with photography at age 6, and continued working with film
-based cameras and black-and-white processing throughout high school and college, and during the first several years of my professional career. During this time I completed secondary coursework in Photoshop
, color printing, large-format and studio photography. Since making the switch to digital, I have become proficient with the new technologies including numerous camera systems, Photoshop and many other editing
programs such as Photo Mechanic and Lightroom on both Mac and PC operating systems. I also am proficient in lighting techniques with compact flash
units as well as studio strobes.
I have served as a guest lecturer at the Art
Institute in Philadelphia to undergraduate photography students for the last few years, in addition to completing many informal tutoring sessions with individuals looking to learn new software, camera systems, shooting techniques, or any other details related to the field. I am passionate about what I do, and love to share my knowledge and experience with others.
In addition to my photography work, there are a few other areas in which I have great interest. I am a very competent writer, grammarian, and proofreader, skills that I picked up from my father who is an English
teacher, writer, and editor
. I also excelled as a baseball
pitcher in middle and high school and played American Legion ball, with 4 M.V.P. awards during this time. Today I continue to play with a couple of different teams, and possess a vast knowledge of the game including a mastery of the proper techniques essential to fielding, hitting, and pitching
. Additionally, I perform with 2 different Brazilian groups on percussion
, and have mastered several of the instruments featured in samba, pagode, and other rhythms from northeast Brazil to Rio, with a special emphasis on the pandeiro--a Brazilian tabourine--and the repinique, the lead drum in a samba percussion section. I have taught several of these instruments informally to students over the years.
