My name is Anne and I am a certified Wilson Instructor, early education tutor and autistic support provider. I have been tutoring and teaching in a private school since 2005. I became interested in in becoming certified in the Wilson reading program after discovering that 3 out of my 4 children are dyslexic. As a child being called slow, lazy, stupid or careless challenged me to change my self-esteem and become and advocate for your child and you.
My passion is in forging new pathways for children that suffer with learning challenges but also children on the autistic spectrum. If one door refuses to open, I will go through another door or window or I will tunnel in. I will build your child's self-esteem through this scientific, research based reading program and creative tutoring. I am compassionate, patient and creative when working with your child.
My educational expertise is not limited to the Wilson Program and creative elementary school tutoring. I also provide an executive function program through LIngui Systems. This program is designed for students entering high school or college. I instruct them how to ask questions, self-talk, self monitor, self plan and organize. This program has 8 steps with three levels within each step. The course is specifically designed for students having difficulty managing their work load because of their learning challenges. The condensed, intense version is 8 weeks but the normal course depends on each student's ability to grasp each step to automaticity. If required, and after getting the school's approval, I will go with your student to their classes in order to monitor where the breakdown is in their understanding of the class requirements.
My commitment does not end with your student as I also help you, the parent or caregiver . I do this by teaching you how to read your student's IEP, how to read your students test results and how to write up specially designed instructions in the IEP. I provide additional support by joining you at any IEP meetings when given enough notice. Above all, you and your child become my priority. In addition I will keep you abreast of any new programs, books or seminars that would assist either you or your child. Helping you understand the process allows your child to be the best he or she can be.
I look forward to being a part of your child's successful new year!
I work with students daily in a small non profit private school. Our students have many learning challenges and most tend to have ADD/ADHD. I also have 2 children at home and can relate to the issues that parents have with organization and planning skills that children with these challenges have. I have taught from Kindergarten to 21 year old students that are dyslexic and or ADD/ADHD. I have taught an Executive Function Class for students with the above challenges.
Having a child with Aspergers allows me to feel very knowledgable in this field. I have ready many books, gone to countless numbers of seminars, joined the Autistic Society of America and has fought for my son in school districts. Unless I was a psychologists I do not think they have a certification in Aspergers Syndrome. I am familiar with ABA program and or Discrete Trial Training. I understand that many of our children have anxiety, depression, tic's and other pedantic behaviors. I allow for many of these behaviors as I realize that it helps them stay focused. I do not have problems teaching students within the
Autistic Spectrum which includes PDD NOS.
Having a child in the Autistic Spectrum has given me ample opportunity to learn about Autism. I have taken many seminars and was a part of the Autistic Society for years. I also spent many years working with ABA or discrete trial training which helped my son tremendously. I understand that these children have anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, sensory motor issues, tic's and other behaviors that are atypical. I am warm, loving and supportive and do not push these children into any frightful state. I also believe that your child is very important to you and that if for any reason they are not comfortable with me I would let you know immediately that it would be in your best interest to find another tutor. I will also help you the parent to advocate for the necessary programs in your public school and will help you review and understand your student's IEP or 504 plan.
I am qualified to teach students that have all types of learning disabilities including but not limited to: ADD/ADHD, APD, Dyslexia, Autism and Aspergers. I teach at a small non for profit private school that teaches children with every spectrum of learning disorders. As a Certified Wilson Instructor I have been trained to teach these students. Most of our students also have secondary challenges such as ADD and ADHD.
Since 2005 I have taught at a small non profit private school. Our school has had children from kindergarten on up. I have also volunteered at our public school and have taught first graders the Wilson Reading Program. I have taught the Saxson Math Program and Touch Math. I have tutored students in reading, writing, spelling and comprehension through senior year. I have no doubt that I could help these students in any elementary courses.
I am a certified instructor in the Wilson Reading Program. Wilson is an Orton Gillingham based program which means that it is a multi-sensory, scientific, research based program. There are a total of 12 steps and within each step in 5 to 6 sub steps. The student is taught to mastery of each sub-step then tested out of each step before moving forward. This program is very successful. Feal free to look the program up and you will see that I am on their tutoring list of certified instructors.
My expertise and what I am certified in is the Wilson Reading Program. This program is a multi-sensory, research based program that helps children learn the 6 syllable types in 12 steps. Each step has 4 to 5 sub steps allowing the student to learn at their own pace to mastery. It also spends time with writing, reading fluency, and vocabulary. Lesson are individual and based on the student's needs and abilities. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
In the private school setting I have taught students with varying challenges. I have worked with ADD, ADHD, OCD, Aspergers, Autism, Epilepsy, Dysgraphia and APD. The most important philosophy is to accept each student for what they are and to set the expectation that they can achieve.
Study skills fall under executive function which is a cognitive issue. I help students how to organize and plan so that they find it easier to study. I teach how to study and find what strengths they have that will work for them. I am currently using the LIngui System Executive Function curriculum to teach these strategies. This course has 8 steps and within each unit is 3 levels to reach mastery. This course is great for high school and beginning college students that have poor organizational skills and poor time management skills.
