I have always had a strong desire to be of service to others and I am proud to have been part of the teaching profession for over 35 years. I consider it a noble profession that positively impacts learners for life. I have known the thrill of seeing students light up with an "I got it" moment when they finally grasp a difficult concept; I have also experienced the frustration of seeing students apathetic about subjects I passionately embrace. Therein lies the challenge all teachers face.
Tutoring is desirable because working one-on-one gives the teacher a closer relationship with the learner. A bond of trust and acceptance may be easier to achieve in a relaxed home setting rather than in the classroom. Sometimes students are afraid to ask questions in school if they are shy (as I was) but can be drawn out with persistent patience in the safety of their home.
My experience includes teaching on a secondary public school level as well as adults in a business college setting. I was also employed for a time by two major communications companies as an end-user trainer. Consequently, I have had to adapt to a variety of learning styles and age levels and have become very versatile in how I approach each student.
I am retired but the classroom still beckons. I would welcome the opportunity to work with your child.
