I received my BA from Temple University, where I majored in Spanish and minored in Anthropology and English. I am also the Director of Marketing for a multinational retail company I helped found, which can be found online at ix-style.com. Further information on my professional and biographical background is found there. My company has been featured in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and People - among others.
We work to improve the quality of drinking water in Latin America.
My tutoring background is similarly extensive. During college, I taught at the college level in El Salvador. I have taught 4th graders in Peru, and throughout my time at Temple, I tutored individuals in the SAT, English, Spanish, Math, and other subjects, including writing, analytical reading, etc.
Following graduation, I taught 1st grade literacy for Mosser Elementary in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I also tutored privately at Gradepower Learning on RT. 100 and with College Nannies and Tutors.
My extensive experience teaching led me to believe that the creation of a positive learning environment is as essential as the material being taught.
Students can only be inspired under the right conditions. Students retain material when they are at ease, and enjoying the process. As I teach, I help the student create, through comprehensive, individualized and creative assignments, a passion for the subject. I craft in the student an appreciation for the subject that will motivate them in and out of the tutoring experience to realize that their potential for excellence can only improve.
Personally, my family comes from Guatemala, and I grew up speaking not only Spanish but some French, Latin and Italian. As mentioned, I spent a semester abroad in Guatemala and El Salvador where I taught English and Spanish at the European Academy in San Salvador, and I worked with several non-profits throughout the region (COPREDEH / Paz Joven). I was trained by professional teachers from Georgetown University and other noted Universities. I worked with students on an individual basis and in a class room setting.
My professional goals are consistent with the vocations I've led. I have completed my Bachelors of Arts; I majored in Spanish. I have many references: from a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, with whom I worked in Guatemala, to my Professors at Temple; I assure you that I am an excellent tutor. In my free time, I play the piano and read.
As an experienced tutor and professional teacher and polymath, I am sure to be a help.
I recently scored in the 95th % on the GRE, as well, as I prepare for graduate school.
Thank you for reading. Please, feel free to address any questions, comments or concerns.
I taught 1st grade and 4th curricula at Mosser Elementary in Allentown, Pennsylvania and have certification and training to teach. During college, I taught during a summer internship in Peru and El Salvador in schools there. I coordinated regional academics through a fellowship.
By working with current curricula and challenging material in the form of practice essays, critical reading exercises, and tests, students can improve their ability to read and write in a thoughtful manner that lends itself well to higher academic pursuits.
I am a trained tutor who has worked with Kaplan Tutoring and Catalyst Tutoring in SAT prep. I have taken the SAT, the GRE and other tests and have scored in the 95th %. My training with the test's nuances, including the analytical writing section's ideal requirements, is ideally suited to prepare a student to take it.
Great Tutor — John is a great teacher passionate, well structured and highly professional. He is extremely helpful and very encouraging and I much enjoy his classes. His private SAT (reading and writing) lessons helped me to improve quickly as well as to feel much more confident with my SAT (reading and writing). With John it is more than just learning reading and writing for me, it is like meeting with a frie ...
