I am a former engineer with a background in physics and optics and am excited to have found my way into education. I wanted to teach ever since I was a little kid. Rather than a classroom setting, I have found that I enjoy a one on one learning environment in which I can focus all my attention on helping a student meet his or her academic goals.
I can assist you with homework and test preparation using the materials that your teacher provides but I will also find my own resources. The internet is full of great resources to assist us in learning and understanding math and science concepts and I will do what I can to incorporate those tools into our lessons. I believe that understanding the concepts can assist us in answering questions that we haven't had to think about before and will seek to help you truly "get it" rather than focusing on just getting the answer and moving on.
I graduated from high school at the top of my class and graduated with honors from college with a Bachelor's degree in physics. I have done graduate work in the optical sciences and education. I spent 10 years in Engineering before pursuing education as a second career. I now have an administrative job I love with a high peforming charter school in the area.
I am interested in tutoring pre-algebra, algebra and high school physics. Depending upon the topic, I may also be able to assist with college level physics material. Additionally, I am a whiz with Microsoft Excel and would love to help others learn how to utilize this tool.
When I'm not working I spend as much time as I can playing with my 1 year old son. I also love singing, needlework, and quilting although singing is the only one of those that I am able to do on a regular basis.
I have found that the world has become an all the more fascinating place as I've learned how to explain the stuff that is going on around me everyday. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to understand math and science.
