As a certified Art Teacher I have some experience with children and adults with ADHD, however I have learned about this issue mostly from raising a son who has ADHD. He was medically tested at U of PENN and received an IEP in school to help with this "disorder". He has taken medication to help with his difficulty in focusing, but as long as his hands are occupied, or he is moving even slightly his ability to focus is greatly improved. Good health, diet and exercise are invaluable in treating this issue as well.
As an active artist and art teacher I have an ongoing love for art history, philosophy, and culture. Some of my favorite books are The Art Spirit, by Robert Henri; The Artists Way, by Julia Cameron, Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain. As well, I enjoy cartoons and stories in The New Yorker magazine.
No matter how much one reads about art/history, doing art is the most effective way to understand what it's all about.
