No one has more experience. No one has more expertise. Over the last 15 years I've worked for several different test-prep companies. All were pretty good, but my instruction incorporates the best techniques from each place. There are a lot of SAT coaches who CLAIM to be experts. I PROVE my expertise by showing you my perfect 800 score on the SAT Subject Test, mathematics level 2. I'm not too shabby at reading and writing, either.

Unlike the one-size-fits-all test-prep courses, and the overly-structured national tutoring companies, I always customize my methods and presentation for the student at hand. There is a big difference between a student striving for 700s on the SAT and one hoping to reach the 500s. Likewise, a student struggling with Algebra I is a far cry from one going for an A in honors pre-calculus. I am comfortable and experienced with all levels of students.

Because many of my students have achieved dramatic increases in their scores, some people get the impression that I am mainly an SAT coach. Such is NOT the case. I have tutored hundreds of students in subjects ranging from pre-algebra to graduate-level statistics. I am a state-certified math teacher, grades 7-12, with seven years of classroom teaching experience.

I am a graduate of the College of William Mary (BA - Mathematics) and the NJ Institute of Technology (MS - Applied Science). But, my greatest qualifications come from years of experience in the real world.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your educational goals.

ACT Math

The SAT is the gold standard in college admissions testing and, in most cases, I discourage students from taking the ACT. The exception is when a student has achieved well in high school mathematics, has taken pre-calculus, and does not score well on standardized tests. When this is the case, the student will likely do better on the ACT, probably because the questions are more straight forward.
The ACT math section covers trigonometry and elements of pre-calculus while the SAT goes only through algebra 2.

ACT Science

A major difference between the SAT and the ACT is that the ACT has a science section. Without good reading and analytical skills, it is hard to score well on the ACT science test.

Algebra 1

Learn Algebra 1 right and it will go a long way toward making subsequent math courses easy. Fail to learn it right and you will be in big trouble the rest of the way. I teach it right.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a lot harder than it used to be. It's also more important than it used to be because algebra 2 concepts are included on the new SAT.

English

It is such a shame that English is not rigorously taught at most schools today. I can remember strict teachers drilling proper English usage into my head: diagramming sentences, looking up words in the dictionary, re-writing papers that my teachers knew I didn't put much effort into.
It's no wonder that my English skills exceed those of most of today's English teachers.

Geometry

Most people think of geometry as a math course, which, of course, it is. However, it is also a reasoning course and a language course. The reasoning and language parts present the major stumbling blocks for students. I believe that geometry is among the hardest subjects to teach and to tutor. But... I love it!

Grammar

Math education has improved in recent decades while grammar education has suffered. I had tough, old-school English teachers and professors, which is why my grammar skills far surpass those of most English teachers I have known.

Praxis

I am a certified math teacher (NJ grades 7-12) with 7 years of full-time classroom teaching experience, including the supervision of student teachers. I have worked as a tutor since 1998, helping students mainly in math and SAT/ACT prep, but also in many other subjects, including PRAXIS levels 1 and 2. My formal education was attained at first-rate schools and I have always scored very high on standardized tests. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Precalculus

This is the math course that drives high school students crazy, even more so than calculus. It is also my favorite subject to tutor. My qualifications for tutoring precalculus are based on long experience and a perfect 800 score on the SAT subject test, level 2, without a graphing calculator.

Probability

Probability is perhaps the most fascinating topic in all of mathematics.
As a young graduate student, I had a probability professor who was a professional gambler and a world-class backgammon player. I have been fascinated with the subject ever since.

SAT Math

Unlike most coaches, who specialize in only one section of the SAT, I have long experience and expertise in all three parts of the test.

SAT Reading

The reading section of the SAT, like the math section, is much more challenging than it used to be. Understanding many of the passages requires college level reading ability. Although my degrees and certifications are in mathematics, I am highly literate and have helped many students make dramatic gains in their reading scores. I prep students for all three parts of the SAT, including the essay.

SAT Writing

Writing skills and grammar are not taught as rigorously as they used to be. Chances are, even if you've attended good schools and gotten good grades, your skills are not adequate to achieve a good score on the SAT writing section.

I studied reading and writing under strict, old-school English teachers and professors, which is one reason why my verbal skills exceed those of most English teachers today.

I have been helping students raise their scores on all three SAT sections for many years. I can do the same for you.

Vocabulary

Sadly, most of today's students have very limited vocabularies. This detracts from their reading comprehension and essay writing, thereby huring their scores on the SAT and other standardized tests.

Fantastic tutor. Ron has tutored my daughter over the past year in pre-calculus and SAT math. He is capable of discussing the concepts in a relatable manner which enables the student to work through and solve the problems independently. In addition to having a thorough knowledge of the subject matter, Ron is extremely patient, kind and encouraging. ...
