When I moved to the US, I learned English reading children books to my kids. After that experience, I came to understand that most traditional methods of teaching a foreign language are not as good as they claim to be. Sure, they do teach a person to ask for a bill at the restaurant. But do they teach you how to behave if a Brazilian invites you to dinner?
I believe in teaching what the student wants to learn. If you are an executive going to work in Brazil, you will need to know the Brazilian business rules. If you are a student going to spend a semester studying in Brazil, you will be more interested in learning about what the Brazilian youth is about.
