I graduated from Wagner College 2006 with a BA in Technical Theatre Design Management, and another BA in Art.
I work as professional theatre technician qualified in costume design & construction, set design & construction, scenic painting, and props design & construction.
Excellent drawing & painting skills.
Excellent hand and machine sewing skills. Pattern cutting, drafting, alterations. Ability to recreate historical clothing patterns.
Great at Microsoft Word and Excel.
Pencil, charcoal, charcoal pencils, pen & ink_ I can help with whatever material you like.
Although I appreciate the value of doing several quick sketches of the same thing, I prefer not to torture students who really want to take the time to really look at what they're doing to accurately reproduce what they're trying to draw rather than do rough sketch after rough sketch and not feeling like it's getting them anywhere.
I can teach drop point perspective renderings (how to turn a 2D floorplan into a 3D perspective of what the floor plan represents without expensive computer programs).
Watercolor, gouach, tempera, acrylic, oil. Painting on canvas or on paper. Whatever you need help with really.
I can help with color mixing, blending, and brush techniques.
I like people to be able to take the time to work out what it really is that they're trying to do rather than rushing them to crank out a lot of work that they're unhappy with and doesn't fulfill what they're trying to learn.
I've been sewing for over ten years now: on machines and by hand.
I can teach a wide variety of hand sewing techniques for finishing and embellishing clothing as well as many techniques for machine finishing.
Pattern drafting and cutting as well as recreating historical clothing patterns are my more particular areas of training.
Where construction is concerned women's clothing/dressmaking are my chief areas for historical as well as contemporary. For men's construction, I'm fine with the more deeply historical clothing, but don't ask me to teach you to tailor a contemporary suit from scratch.
I can teach how to do alterations and refurbishments for any type of clothing.
I can teach about fashion history from ancient to contemporary. I can teach costume design and rendering.
I've been in technical theatre for ten years now.
I've trained in a wide variety of the technical aspects. Stage carpentry, rigging, scenic painting, properties design & construction, set design, costume design, costume construction & alteration, the of stage lighting & electronics, and lighting design.
I can teach the ultimate basics of any one of these things, but can teach much more in depth about costuming, set & costume design, scene painting, carpentry.
