I am a 2007 graduate of Alvernia College where I obtained certification in Elementary K-6 and a 2011 graduate of Kutztown University in the M.Ed. Reading Specialist program and have completed my coursework for the ESL Program Specialist Certificate. I am also enrolled in the M.Ed. Special Education Certification program at Alvernia. I am currently the Reading Specialist at the Children's Home of Reading. Prior to this employment, I have been a substitute teacher in several school districts in the region with experience in each grade from kindergarten to 8th grade as well as different areas of instruction such as learning support and physical education.
I believe that my job as an educator is to give my students the power to accomplish any goal they set for themselves. My approach is student-centered with a focus on the individual, more than the group. Each child is given appropriate instruction to ensure his/her success both in the classroom and in life. Along with being well-versed in Balanced Literacy, I have worked with a variety of curricula including Saxon Math, Envision Math, and DIBELS; and have developed my own unique and engaging activities. It is my belief that communication with parents is a key to the success of all students. I am always in search of new and exciting technologies to use in the classroom.
I have experience with extracurricular activities as I have been a varsity lacrosse coach and was also one of the pioneers in the development of the sport of lacrosse in Berks County. Additionally, I have two years experience with children from my time spent as a staff member at Camp Lohikan. I look forward to speaking with you in the near future about how my abilities make me an excellent fit for your tutoring needs. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
