Actuarial Science

I have experience with the preliminary actuarial exams and have passed the P, FM, MFE, and C exams, as well as exam 3L from the CAS side. I was completely self-taught and learned first-hand how to prepare for these difficult exams, including discrete and continuous probabilities, co-variant variables, investment valuation, mortality tables, hypothesis testing, order statistics, insurance pricing, kernel smoothing, maximum likelihoods, frequency/severity models, and credibility. All of my exams were first-attempt passes except for MFE (that was a second attempt).

Differential Equations

I studied differential equations as part of my engineering education. I took two semesters of diff EQs and received an A in both courses. That was over a decade ago, but the subject came up again recently when I was studying for actuarial exams. Passing the MFE exam required the use of some differential equations, and the skill came back to me fairly quickly.

Linear Algebra

My engineering education included a course in linear algebra. The syllabus included matrix algebra, inverses, determinants, Cramer's rule, eigenvalues, and applications to differential equations. I got an A in the course. Although it has been a while since I had to apply some of this knowledge, it usually comes back to me quickly when I need to recall it.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
