Sometimes classrooms just can't provide the one-on-one attention you need to excel. Learning doesn't have to be dull or life-sucking like it is in many schools. Perhaps you're ready to make a change in your own life and need a little help to get started. Tutoring can help you hone your skills or to catch up in areas of weakness, and I'm eager to help!
While I have successfully tutored students in many subjects, I consider myself first and foremost a teacher of writing. I obsess over grammar - when I take a beach vacation, I always treat myself to a grammar book to read in the sun. I'm kind of nerdy like that. I don't just teach my students what's "right" and "wrong" in regard to grammar. Instead, we study how the language works. My goal is to help my students become lifelong writers (and readers), not only to master a test.
Areas of instruction include:
SAT Writing
SAT Critical Reading

GRE Verbal
GRE Quantitative Reasoning
GRE Analytical Writing
MCAT verbal
GMAT
Praxis I
Praxis English Subject Area
TEAS

College application essays
Algebra I and II

I am uniquely qualified as a tutor. I've earned a Ph.D. in Reading, Writing and Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania. Not only do I have hundreds of hours of tutoring experience, but I am also certified in both English AND Math (a very rare qualification). I hold Pennsylvania Level II teaching certifications in English 7-12, Math 7-12, and Health K-12. Additionally, I was two classes away from getting a B.S. in general science.
Standardized test prep is a huge industry. Many of my students have tried several centers and packaged systems before beginning with me, and I often hear them say that they've never learned like this before and that my advice is perfect for their unique needs. When I work with you, I'm not following a scripted curriculum. Instead, I'm evaluating your particular strengths and weaknesses and developing *your* strategy to get you the highest score possible.
