Hello! I'm Jill. I earned my Master's degree in Childhood Education and Special Education in 2004 and I've tutored one or more children almost every year since then. I am certified to teach in New York State and plan to complete the necessary tests to earn my Pennsylvania teaching license. I have taught children from age 5 to 13 in classroom settings, as well as in tutoring situations. The majority of my experience is teaching children with learning disabilities (and other special needs) and second language learners, but I also have experience teaching children in general education classes who struggle in the areas related to reading and writing. I have taught phonics using Orton-Gillingham methods, such as Wilson and PAF. I am able to assess children on my own and to plan lessons that work toward their individual learning goals. I am also able to work with your child's teachers to ensure that we focus on targeted areas of struggle and that your child is learning in a consistent manner.
As a parent myself, I recognize the need for your child and me to be a good fit. Children tend to feel comfortable with me. I believe in creating a learning environment that is low-stress and fun. Games, art, songs, even a bit of yoga can be useful in teaching almost any subject, as well as for making learning enjoyable. If I sound like a good fit for your child- I'd love to hear from you!
