As a child and teenager, I loved to learn (and I still do!), but school was not easy for me. I had plenty of potential, but I lacked many of the tools I needed to help me succeed in the classroom. This is one of the reasons I decided to become a certified teacher. There are few things in life as rewarding as helping students achieve the academic success they may not have even realized they were capable of!
With over nine years of formal teaching experience, I bring with me a wealth of professional knowledge and expertise and would love the opportunity to work with your child. Whether he is five or fifteen, struggling with reading or Algebra, I will develop a plan to meet him just where he is and to help him grow to a place of success and confidence. I will focus on supporting his individual needs and learning style to complete specific assignments and meet identified skill-based goals, while at the same time developing his study, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. I will be his coach and his cheerleader and will seek to foster a love of learning and the confidence to take on challenges both in and out of the classroom.
I hold teaching certificates in Elementary, Middle School Math, and Middle School Science, however I have taught and tutored students from Kindergarten up through 12th grade in a wide variety of skills and subjects including grammar and writing and Environmental Science. I am skilled at meeting the needs of students with a variety of learning challenges including ADD/ADHD and reading disabilities as well as students for whom English is a second language. I have also worked with gifted and talented students to provide individualized enrichment beyond what is available in the classroom.
I hope to put my creativity, experience and passion to work for you and your child!
