*BOOM*! Okay now that I've got your attention allow me to say hello. I am an artist first and foremost. Always have been and always will be, even to the grave. You see, I was born this way!
My grandmother, who is an artist, got her degree in Art Education. She taught two of my teachers, one of which became my home town's own personal personality. So I have a wonderful pedigree and personality to match!
I choose AIPH because it had more of a vocational-school-like approach that suited my learning style. I took longer then expected to achieve my Bachelors degree due to a change over in school curriculum. They only offered Associate degrees when I started, and 3/4 of the way to my degree they offered a Bachelors (of Science) in Animation. Being the nerd that I am, I had to have it for my own... my precious!
I also learned web design as a hobby to start, and I'm glad that I had the chance to do so -- as Disney (my primary job prospect) folded their animation studios, and shortly there-after bought Pixar. However, my animation background proved very useful in conjunction with my understanding of the web. So crafting portfolio sites, animating ad banners, and more become a staple. However, I'm not one to put aside new opportunities just because they "don't quite fit".
I've worked as a waitress (fine dining, truck stops, bed and breakfast kitchen), retail as a cashier, tech-helper for minor issues (OMG the Mac ate my zip disk!! help!), lab monitor, peer mentor (teacher's aide), and even did an extended stint as a peer-tutor while in college. I've volunteered panels at conventions as well, hosting "art 101" type classes that were left standing room only by the end of them.
Oh, and if you haven't noticed. I'm a goofball. Comes with the territory of being an animator - or so I've observed. ;)
I'm a mom of three, and teaching kids from 10 and up is a favorite of mine. I'm open to all age ranges, and cater the lessons to the mentality. I do not have experience, nor am I comfortable working with special needs kids. This is something I hope to correct in the near future. Most of the money from this venture will be put towards attaining a PA-certified teaching degree (hopefully specializing in art-therapy).
