As your tutor, I will give you more than just the tutoring session you are paying for. I prepare for each session by reviewing your homework. I use a diagnostic approach based on my years of experience. No two students have exactly the same difficulty, but there are common problems that are very familiar to me. I will get you caught up where necessary, figure out where you're going wrong, and use that to help you understand the material clearly.

I'm not going to judge you. I will be patient and kind, since I remember my own struggles trying to learn math.

I specialize exclusively in math. Because math education is so fundamental and so demanding, you deserve a math tutor who is a specialist. Aside from being an engineer, I've been tutoring math since the mid 1980s and teaching math at community college the last five years.

Algebra 1

I have both taught and tutored Basic Algebra, so I am very familiar with the material and the prerequisite math skills. Students may have trouble with the new ideas, like operations on variables, but more often the problem is they never really learned the basics, like working with fractions.

Algebra 2

I have taught Intermediate Algebra at community college and am very familiar with the material. Students frequently come into the class not having mastered more basic concepts, and I have gotten to be pretty quick at figuring out where the student needs help.

Calculus

There is probably no subject I have tutored more than Calculus, since this was the main subject other students needed help with when I was in college. The main thing students need help with in calculus is, you guessed it, algebra!

Students may need a review of trig and some insights into problem-solving strategy, too.

Precalculus

Precalculus is among the courses I've taught in community college. It may seem like a grab bag of different topics (algebra, logarithms, trigonometry), but it's also a good opportunity to give the future calculus student a "heads up" about what calculus will be all about.

SAT Math

I've previously been an SAT tutor at Huntington Learning Center and have completed a course in SAT prep at Bucks County Community College. A long time ago, I did very well on the SAT because I figured out what it really tests is not knowledge but reasoning.
