Trained as a research biologist with a B.S. from Cornell University, for the past 20 years I have home educated my own children. They each have their own personality and learning style, and I learned to adapt the study method to the child. Two are now finished with college and employed in their professions; the third is now off to college.

In addition to homeschooling my own children, for 14 years I have been teaching science classes at a weekly homeschool cooperative. I teach classes for elementary, middle school and high school age students. I also have tutored some of these students in science, math and writing for other coursework.

I now work part-time as a Professional Science Tutor for Penn College. I tutor the sciences (except Physics) and math through Algebra.

I have a passion to help students not only learn the required material for a subject, but also to become lifelong learners. When students discover learning methods that work for them, they can they apply that knowledge and method to other subjects, whether in school or out. I believe that every child can be successful.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have taught children's Sunday school for 20 years. Additionally, I was a children's teacher in Bible Study Fellowship International for 14 years.

Botany

I teach life science classes to middle school students; this includes several weeks' study of botany. Additionally, I have in the past taught a one-semester botany course and will again do so this fall.

Elementary (K-6th)

A research scientist by training, I successfully home-educated my own three children. All scored very high on standardized tests and received top scholarships to college. Additionally, I teach science classes on a weekly basis to elementary and middle school homeschool students, and have tutored in math and writing.

Phonics

I taught my three sons to read using phonics.

Writing

While a research scientist with the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, I helped write and edit many of our reports, as well as research articles my boss submitted to scientific journals. Currently, I review many of my husband's professional articles before publication as well as edit and grade papers written by my homeschool science classes. I have also taught a class on how to write a research paper.
