As your writing tutor, I will focus on writing-as-a-process. This approach to writing implements pre-writing (outlining), writing (draft), and re-writing (editing; final paper). This approach to writing allows even the most challenged writer to learn that writing is teachable. I will encourage you to discuss your process with me as you work through each step. I use this process whenever I write about a specific topic that will be read by an audience. For example, when working the outlining step, I utilize a software program called "Inspiration." This software can be used by everyone. It offers graphic/flow chart tools for those who are more graphically inclined. Once you fill in your shapes, you can flip the graphics to writing outline and view your pre-writing outline in writing mode. For those who are the more verbal/reading inclined, you can choose to use a format that is the typical outline method. This outlining can also be switched to the graphic mode. It is a very effective approach to your pre-writing step.
I will also lead you to find your real subject, and we will discuss your topic to ensure that it is not too broad. In addition to taking you through the writing process, I will direct your attention to diction, syntax, voice, and sentence mechanics. The most important thing to remember as you write is your finished product. A winning finished product is the result of a good writing process.
Finally, my long-range plan for my students is to implement interacting with my students through the internet. I will be able to review your work (if you have something already written) or post an assignment for you, you will be able to retrieve it, complete it, post it, and I will be able to review it, correct it, make suggestions, and re-post it for you. This process can continue until you are satisfied with your work product. From what I have learned so far, you and I will be able to work together at times that are convenient for us, respectively. This is a very exciting program for we will both be able to work at times that we are at our best. Of course, we will still be able to meet and discuss your progress and achievements along the way to the final product.
I have worked as a substitute teacher mostly in high school language arts classes. I was a volunteer tutor for several months at a local high school. I helped students in various stages of writing a paper from deciding on a topic to editing and re-writing of the final draft.
As a student teacher, I provided my 12th grade students with daily writing prompts, reach each paper for content, grammar, and sentence structure, etc. I made suggestions on each student's paper to help them clarify their topics as they moved on in the writing process.
I possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, Secondary English encompassing grades 7 through 12. In the work force, I edited and revised professional briefs for attorneys, as well as independently draft preliminary motions.
I am quite certain that I can meet your academic needs for a tutor in the field of writing, grammar, and other language arts assignments.
Sincerely,
Connie
